I remember our first major SEO project which was for HOGfurniture.com.ng, an online furniture store owned by Vanaplus Group.
Aside from the technical and local SEO, On-page SEO played a key role in driving and sustaining organic traffic to the website which subsequently with other conversion strategies lead to increase sales for the organization. In this post we will share a few On-page SEO tips we used and the results over time.
On-Page SEO Checklist
- Keywords – Keywords used should reflect what the everyday users are mostly likely going to use as search terms or phrases.
It is more preferable to use phrase as that can act as long tail keyword
This can be derived from the use of Google trend website https://trends.google.com/trends/ or Search for related search term on the search engine.

Title – Page title should be compelling and also carry the focus keyword bearing in mind that it acts as H1 for google’s robot.txt
URL – This should be short and also focus on keywords
H1 – Page Title (See title)
H2 – Headings – Focus Keywords should be used in this heading
H3 – Subheadings – Other related keywords can be used
Tags – Tags should also reflect the search terms a layman would use as well as related keywords used in H3. It is also preferable to use long tail tags.
Categories – Remember to select preset Categories on the blog that is connected to the blog content.
Also note that categories and tags can be optimized using yoast SEO plugin, though it is time consuming, but this has proven to contribute significantly to traffic to web pages.
Meta Description – With the use of yoast SEO plugin, remember to add meta description with should have the focus keywords and other search terms in the sentence.
Images – Images should be saved with appropriate names, while the alt names should be the focus keyword
Link Building – At least 2 internal and 2 external links
